From the blue seas to the highest peacks of the Ecrins national park, the Provence-Alpes-Côte
d'Azur region has many areas of natural beauty : lavandar bushes, olive trees,
vineyards, wide open spaces, harbor villages… Various landscapes for a multicultural
region ! The Paca region has kept authenticity with its traditions which are still
very much alive.
| The Ecrins
national park, considered as the European high-mountain natural park, offers
spectacular views of its 100 peaks rising to more than 3000 m : glaciers, vast
corries of rocky peaks, alpine pastures, mountain lakes… |
 |
The Mercantour national park extends from the North of the Upper Provence
Alps, bordering on the Ubaye valley, to the Menton countryside, not far from the
Mediterranean. Enclosed by a natural wall culminating at a height of 3000 m, the
Queyras Park, at the
 |
heart of the
Upper Alps, offers the spectator a protected spacewhere nature reigns unmolested
: its larch and pine forests along the slopes, its splendid flora and brooks and
its solidly built traditional wooden houses. At the meeting point of continental
and Mediterranean influences, the Queyras park has kept its authenticity.
The Verdon regional park with the Verdon Gorges and its canyons and rivers
is the highest touristic place of the Paca Region. |
The Verdon park is also : the lavendar bushes of the Valensole plateau, the olive
trees and truffle oaks of Upper Provence, the forests and pastures of the pre-Alpine
massifs and tiny villages perched on the hills in Upper Var.
Camargue is this "island" enclosed between the Rhône and the Mediterranean. In
spite of the apparent uniformity of the territory, three types of landscape can
be distinguished: the sansouires (vast grassy plains, like the steppes, which
belong to the horses and bulls), the rollières (fresh water marshes) which shelter
numerous species of birds, and the beaches and dunes which are
unique for the French Mediterranean coast.
Camargue, Luberon, Ecrins, Mercantour, Verdon, Queyras, Port-Cros..., high mountains,
marshlands, meadows, cliffs, canyons... evocative names and sublime landscapes. |
